Rather than showcasing individual designers, this extravaganza showcased the chapter as a whole and the value of selecting an ASID designer for their next project. This years kitchen vignette was designed to educate the public about recycle/upcycle and the value of ASID designers. For this project Chris West created this stunning chandlier using recyled and upcyled materials.

Kitchen Design In A Day?

Can an entire kitchen really be designed and built in just one day? That was the challenge presented to local builders at this years Maricopa County Home Show held on the grounds of the Arizona State Fairgrounds. Their 4th Annual Kitchen Design Competition showed off the the best in full-kitchen remodel displays. Licensed remodeling companies showed the latest trends in cabinetry, appliances, countertops, fixtures, lighting and flooring.

Pentimento was thrilled to be a part of Stardust’s Builders Kitchen Vignette at the Maricopa County Home Show. This amazing new kitchen design by Gretchen Palmer, Allied ASID and her team including Pentimento’s very own Chris West in just one day! The vignette featured re-purposed light fixture newly designed by Chris just for this show.

A big thanks to Stardust, ASID, Gretchen Palmer and the Maricopa County Home Show for inviting Pentimento to be a part of this exciting event.

A reuse organization, Stardust Non-Profit Building Supplies, operates three Valley reuse centers which sell salvaged and gently-used building materials to make home repairs and remodeling more affordable and sustainable. The proceeds generated from our stores support our deconstruction service, as well as community programs that provide essential household items and building materials to families and individuals in need.

During the Tour and Presentation Chris emphasized the advantages of buying local and specifically the benefits for clients in the Phoenix area to working with Pentimento. Buying local offers an opportunity to support the excellent craftsmanship in your community. Pentimento and it’s on site factory support a rare commodity: a product by hand that is not outsourced overseas. Supporting local manufacturers makes this “tradesmanship” a possibility.

NEWH Off The Wall Art Auction

NEWH art auctionThe Arizona chapter of NEWH held its first annual Off The Wall Art Auction on April 19th 2013 at the beautiful Design Within Reach, Scottsdale showroom. The event was a great success do to an amazing turn out and the hard work of our volunteers to raise much needed funds for scholarship opportunities benefiting students in the hospitality industry.

As an event planner, Amie Dignan coordinated and donated her time to help the planning committee choreograph the evening. The planning committee headed by Crissy Knight worked diligently to secure sponsors and donations for the auction. Bob McMillan & Chris West from Pentimento Lighting & Furnishings staged an amazing performance as our “live auctioneers” bringing a playful element to the evening.

NEWH art auctionMusic makes such a big difference in creating the atmosphere of a event. A friend of Crissy Knights, a duet named Shitz N’ Giggles, entertained the crowd with a variety of musical renditions. We were so lucky to have a local high school jazz band, 5 MAN QUARTET, they were a very talented group of young performers. One of the highlights of the evening was the “Graffiti Throw-down”.  Two original pieces of graffiti art were completed and raffled off at the end of the auction.

A big thanks goes out to our sponsors and to all the people who donated art for the auction. We so appreciate your generosity, which made our First Annual Art Auction such a great success.

Donations:

Benedict’s Catering of Scottsdale provided hors d’oeuvres for the event. www.benedictscaterers.com
