NEWH Off The Wall Art Auction

NEWH art auctionThe Arizona chapter of NEWH held its first annual Off The Wall Art Auction on April 19th 2013 at the beautiful Design Within Reach, Scottsdale showroom. The event was a great success do to an amazing turn out and the hard work of our volunteers to raise much needed funds for scholarship opportunities benefiting students in the hospitality industry.

As an event planner, Amie Dignan coordinated and donated her time to help the planning committee choreograph the evening. The planning committee headed by Crissy Knight worked diligently to secure sponsors and donations for the auction. Bob McMillan & Chris West from Pentimento Lighting & Furnishings staged an amazing performance as our “live auctioneers” bringing a playful element to the evening.

NEWH art auctionMusic makes such a big difference in creating the atmosphere of a event. A friend of Crissy Knights, a duet named Shitz N’ Giggles, entertained the crowd with a variety of musical renditions. We were so lucky to have a local high school jazz band, 5 MAN QUARTET, they were a very talented group of young performers. One of the highlights of the evening was the “Graffiti Throw-down”.  Two original pieces of graffiti art were completed and raffled off at the end of the auction.

A big thanks goes out to our sponsors and to all the people who donated art for the auction. We so appreciate your generosity, which made our First Annual Art Auction such a great success.

Benedict’s Catering of Scottsdale provided hors d’oeuvres for the event.

Amie Dignan from Aventura Catering provided desserts featuring an assortment whoopee pies.

Refreshments including wine and beer were donated and served by Dave Forman of Pour Masters

Pentimento unveils sleek new acrylic lighting!

Concept sketch of “Marquis” lighting

In an effort to respond to designer market demands, Pentimento Lighting is introducing lines of sleek new acrylic lighting for use in the hospitality and high-end residential market. A need for exciting new looks in new and interesting materials has led Chris West, Director of Design for Pentimento Lighting, to develop a new line of acrylic fixtures that maximize the sexy look that acrylic has to offer. With a custom die-cut process, Pentimento has designed their latest fixture, “Marquis”, to look wet by flaming the acrylic to bring out the maximum glossy shine and amp up the glam factor.

Pentimento’s new “Marquis” lighting

Pentimento Lighting is unique in their ability to manufacture product on-site at the Mesa, Arizona, location. Working with Darrell Comte, Production Engineer, Pentimento Lighting can produce the “Marquis” fixture in a range of colors that all bring the best possible wow factor to the designers location. Every designer can purchase the “Marquis” in its current format or customize to each location’s size limitations.

For an up-close and personal inspection of the beauty of the “Marquis” chandelier, please stop by FloorStyles in the Scottsdale Design District, our Scottsdale designer showroom location, and see the beautiful chandelier on display. The lovely and talented Patrice Hill will be glad to introduce the colors available and show you how luscious the finished product will be in your location.

The “Marquis” dimensions are 28″ diameter x 32″ height with an intermediate base six-light capacity, with a smaller five-light version also available. The first in the acrylic series, the “Marquis” will have a follow-up chandelier in an LED format called “Duchess”, which will be introduced in the spring of 2013.

Pentimento presents our Factory Tour Video

Starting out our tour with a look at the showroom.

Here at Pentimento Lighting & Furnishings we offer such a diverse mix of lighting options many people enjoy seeing the fixtures we offer in our factory and even how they are built and assembled. We often give tours to local design students, clients, and designers. Last week we had the pleasure of giving a guided tour of our factory and showroom to a local designer, Celia Schauble. Celia is the founder of In The Pursuit of WOW! Design Studio established in 2002.

Celia Schauble of In The Persuit of WOW! Design Studio

We started our day with Celia by sitting down in our showroom with her and our design team to discuss upcoming trends and just catch up with one of our favorite designers. Celia brings passion and creativity to every job she undertakes and we love working with her and her design concepts. Celia spends a lot of time abroad and was able to give us the inside scoop on many European trends and designs.

After some refreshments and socializing Sheldon invited Celia to tour our factory to get a “behind the scenes” look at our factory where we produce our hand made fixtures. The tour starts off with a visit to our design department where Chris West, our design manager, explains to Celia the wide range of goods we are able to produce and the capabilities of our design team.

Sheldon then escorts Celia upstairs where we house a large collection of vintage TV and film memorabilia as well as an extensive collection of artwork and prints. From our “art room” Sheldon guides Celia to a landing over looking our factory to show her a bird’s eye view of our factory floor where all of our fixtures are manufactured by hand here in the USA

Celia meets some of the crew.

Celia was able to meet some of the talented artisans that fabricate, assemble, and finish our fixtures. Sheldon then takes the time to explain how some of the lighting pieces come together pointing out the superior quality of a hand made fixture vs one made by machines in China.

At the end of our tour we show Celia our huge collection of drawings, blueprints, and CAD files that can be used for inspiration. Celia even points out that if you don’t know what you are looking for you will be able to find it here. We really do enjoy giving tours and showing people how with a little creativity and the right knowledge we can create or help you choose the best lighting solutions for every budget and concept.

Holiday of Hope Festival of Trees 2012

Tuesday night, We here at Pentimento Lighting & Furnishings had the opportunity to attend The Holiday of Hope Festival of Trees, a benefit for Phoenix Children’s Hospital. This year’s even was held at the Montelucia Resort and Spa. This year, the trees were displayed in the ballroom while cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were served on their beautifully decorated patio. The weather was just perfect and everyone really enjoyed the well decorated trees and complimentary refreshments.

All of the trees were generously donated by Sam’s Club and were creatively decorated by talented local designers. Each tree encompassed a specific theme that reflected the individual designer’s vision while showcasing their design expertise. We found it interesting that this year a few of the designers choose to represent the holiday season with organic elements and various woodland creatures. We thought these trees would be especially wonderful in large mountain cabins.

The trees were auctioned to the local community to raise money for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital with starting bids at $1000.00. The winning bidders were then given the option to have their trees hand delivered to their home or office, or given the option to donate the trees to be displayed for the kids during this Christmas season.

We brought a special guest to the event this year, Jenifer’s 4-year-old son Cole. His presence was a reminder of the importance of the event and how many hands coming together can make a difference in one child’s life. Cole had a great time and thought all the trees were “beautiful”. Here are two of his favorites.

Pentimento Gets Spooktacular at Scottsdale Design Center

Last Thursday evening, October 25th, the Pentimento Lighting Team participated with Floor Styles in the 68th Street Design District’s first annual Spooktacular.  This fun event was sponsored by all the interior design showrooms at the center including the Grand Opening of the Dean Warren and Horizon Art Showrooms. Every Showroom served food. drinks and Dean Warren had this spectacular palm reader, Rita Urpalm. She read my palm but I’ll never tell what I learned.

Patrice Hill manager at Floor Styles got “Spooky” via her showroom entertainer, Yvette, makeup artist to the stars. If you look closely you will see the bat in her Beehive hairdo and, yes, that is Vampire Blood dripping from the corners of her mouth. Also, Patrice’s friend who rescues kitties set up a black cat adoption station outside of Floor Styles. How perfect for witches and goblins preparing for All Hallows Eve….ha, ha, ha.

At Floor Styles we served Black Cat red wine and Apple Cider with the option of spiking it with Tuaca, a vanilla citrus liquor which makes the cider taste like Apple Pie.

Jack Pesarcyk & Associates served Black Martinis and Horizon Art had homemade Sangria that was the color of Blood. Park Avenue Design Studio had homemade popcorn balls. Yum! Switch Consignment had one of their vendors making wonderful Christmas decorations from wire, ribbon and florals.  You could either buy completed swags and trees or you could purchase the materials to make your own. I would love to make my own but probably I would buy the materials but never find the time to make them.

From my perspective, it was a great event. I saw many interior designers that I had not seen in a long time and met new people.  Look forward to a repeat performance. Let’s see…what will we do next year? Maybe Tarot Cards, maybe ghost hunters, or maybe a good game of Murder in the Dark. We’ll see. What would you suggest? Tell me in the comments.
